An interesting twist to the popular board game Monopoly will be available this month called Ms. Monopoly.
Parent company Hasbro wants to bring the gender pay gap out of the corporate environment and into your living room. This new take on the popular board game attempts to change the tide a bit by introducing many new women centered elements. Some examples include women getting $1,900 in Monopoly money compared to $1,500 for male players at the beginning of the game and women receiving $240 passing “Go”, while men get $200.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, women earn just 81% of what their male counterparts make with larger pay gaps for minorities. However, not everyone is on “board”. Nearly half of American men think the gap doesn’t exist.
Interestingly enough it was Lizzie Phillips who has been widely credited with first developing the game, originally titled “Landlord’s Game”.
